Right now, it is more important than ever to focus on these aspects of our everyday lives. Statistics are at an all-time high for obesity, depression and low self-esteem. However, with small manageable and sustainable changes, we can bring dramatic changes to our body, mind and confidence.
With the ever-growing volume of information on exercise; new diets, new shakes and pills, different methods of meditation, new weight loss clubs and 15-minute meals how can we possibly know where to start and what is best for us? Sometimes the best method is to bring our plan back to basics and keep things simple. Small, challenging yet achievable goals are much more likely to get you to your target than simply throwing the finale in the air and going gung-ho.
Have you ever been in a situation where you tell yourself “it’s time for a change”? You then get everything you believe you need to boost the motivation levels to an all-time high, maybe you bought those expensive new running trainers. Then you follow the plan every step of the way. After a few short weeks, maybe less, things start to slip. You finish work late so you miss that class you were going to go to. You had to move your PT session and didn’t make up for the lost session before you went back. Or you’ve stopped listening to your meditation app which was definitely helping you de-stress in the afternoon. Then before you know it you’re off-track and back to feeling the way you did with a little disappointment thrown into the mix because everything didn’t work out the way it was meant too…
Well, good news! This in no way means you are less motivated than others. The people who seem to keep going no matter what. The ones who seem happier, healthier, thinner, fitter, less stressed and are still doing their ‘new routine’ after months and months. It seems there is simply no stopping them. Nope! You are in fact extremely motivated. In some ways, you are more motivated than them because no matter what happens you are the one that comes back and tries again. The only difference is you don’t know how to use that motivation correctly to gain consistency. How to set the smaller goals that keep you determined to reach your end game. Until these ‘new routines’ become your ‘standard routine’ and it no longer feels like the effort it once did.
